The topic of discussion for this second Dialogue Series is racism and how it affects the transracial adoptee experience. This is an adoptee only space.
A few things to note, this event is from 1:00PM-5:00PM with an optional pay-your-own-way dinner afterwards (likely from 5:00PM-7:00PM) at Huong Duong Restaurant (Vietnamese). This is very close to Othello Commons, so you don’t have to drive somewhere else. AAAW will provide snacks and beverages for the event. The actual discussion is from 2:00PM-4:30PM, the extra time before and after was added in case attendees want to socialize, but we may move onto dinner after 4:30PM if we’re done with the space.
Please be aware, some areas like 42nd Ave. S have a 2-hour parking limit on Saturdays, BUT there are other streets nearby that don’t have this limit on Saturdays such as 43rd/44th Ave. S. and along S. Myrtle St. (streets marked blue). See marked up screenshot below. Please check nearby signs after you park. As an alternative to driving, the light rail Othello Station is across from the Othello Commons.
Before we close, there will be a survey for participants to complete as well as announcements. Please let us know if you have any questions via email at aaawash@gmail.com!
*Disclaimer: the facilitators/volunteers involved are not licensed/certified mental health professionals, we are just trying to provide a space for adoptees to process their feelings and share experiences. We’ll also go over community agreements and norms before diving into discussion.*
