Asian Adult Adoptees Of Washington

Dear AAAW Community and Friends,

Asian Adult Adoptees of Washington Board of Directors would like to thank you for your continued support and engagement in our community. Thank you for helping us build community, resiliency, and mentorship within the Asian Adoptee community. We are looking forward to our upcoming events in 2016-2017 and hope you will continue to join us:

  • 2016 Annual Holiday Cocktail Party, December 3rd
  • 2017 Annual Spring Potluck, April 22nd
  • 2017 Summer BBQ at Carkeek, August 12th (tentatively)
  • 5th Annual AAAW/AKAP Dodgeball Tournament in PDX, (to be announced in 2017)
  • 2017 AAAW Artist Showcase, October 14th
  • 2017 Annual Holiday Cocktail Party, December 9th
  • Monthly Dinner at Red Lantern, last Wednesday of every month

The Adoptee Mentorship Program (AMP) – the first mentorship program of its kind in Washington State – continues into its third year of programming, offering mentorship provided by adult adoptees from the AAAW community to adoptee youth ages 8-15. Mentors support mentees through the process of identity development and building community through engaging activities. This program continues to grow a joyful and resilient intergenerational community of Asian adoptees.

AMP’lified, the newest program of AAAW, deepens the journey for adoptee youth by providing a safe and supportive space for youth to find their voice and hold in-depth conversations lead by mentors. Both AMP and AMP’lified profoundly impact AMP youth and their parents who also participate in monthly activities:

My favorite things about AMP are that we get to talk about private stuff about adoption and our birth families, we show pictures to each other of our families, and we get to do fun activities. It helps make me feel better about myself.AMP youth
AMP has given my child more self-confidence and gives her the support and encouragement she needs. It provides a safe outlet for my child to share her concerns and thoughts about her adoption with others (mentors and mentees) who truly understand.AMP parent

AAAW also offers a semiannual scholarship of up to $600 to support fellow adoptees pursuing educational opportunities that enrich their understanding of adoptees’ early cultural background. Please help us support this important and meaningful scholarship fund.

We need your help to continue building a powerful and supportive intergenerational adoptee community. Please make a gift to Asian Adult Adoptees of Washington because our community is remarkable.

Make a gift because AAAW is a community filled with resiliency and joy.

With gratitude,

AAAW Board of Directors
